Sweeping Coffee Sector Reforms Set to Boost Farmer Earnings in 2025/2026
The Kenyan government has announced major reforms in the coffee sector ahead of the 2025/2026 harvest season. Deputy President Kithure Kindiki outlined measures to increase farmer earnings, dismantle exploitative cartels, and streamline licensing. Key changes include timely fertilizer supply, subsidized pesticides, and certified seedlings, as well as a simplified, single-license system for millers, brokers, and marketers.
